Below is a compilation of ways to spend tomorrow’s holiday when you’re single and loving it.Read More

How to Get a Valentine

Well, it has once again come upon us. Valentine’s Day. And once again, you are single. But that’s okay. As long as you have your cat and that five-pound candy bar you should be good for the next 365 days.

Ha! Just kidding!

As you might not know, I have become a bit of a dating advice guru on this blog (I don’t know why) and I’ve decided to take what you guys have come to like best about me (a single girl’s guide to snagging males) and make a Valentine’s edition! (Note: I basically make these as mock-serious. However, if they work for you, tell me!)

Getting a Valentine That Isn’t Your Cat

1. Look Cute

I do not care if you have to wake up at 4 in the morning. Look nice. Put on a cute shirt, do your hair, put on a little extra mascara. Seriously. No one is going to want to be your Valentine if you look like the monster that lives in your closet.

2. Do Not Make ‘Forever Alone’ Jokes

forever alone with 72 cats

If you don’t want a Valentine, make all the ‘Forever Alone’ jokes you want. Tweet all your besties using #ForeverAlone. Whatever you want! However, if you would like to possibly spend the day with a boy, leave the ‘Forever Alone’ alone. No boy wants to listen to a girl who sounds like a loser. Work that single girl status!

Want to Do Something Special For Your Valentine?

*Note: Sorry about the delay for this post. I seem to have contracted the Black Plague (just kidding) and was inexcusably lazy about blogging. Please forgive me (:

It’s almost the most romantic day of the year and you still don’t have anything special planned for your special someone. Your time is ticking, with only 3 more days. But luckily Morgan is here to help you find activities that will make your Valentine’s Day extra special, without completely breaking your back or breaking the bank.

1. Smaller is Sweeter

At my school we sell cupcakes to fundraise for my upcoming French trip. People love to buy these small, inexpensive treats for their loved one, just to show them how they were thinking of them. You can also buy them at Safeway where they have amazing gourmet cupcakes for a pretty low price. Even make them yourself!
PRICE: $.50 – $5
SWEETHEART POINTS: 15

2. Floating in Love Balloons

Everyone loves getting balloons for any occasion. Treat your special someone to a special balloon bouquet from any drugstore. Choose red, pink, and white and you can add in a balloon with writing on it, with sayings such as “Be Mine” and “I Love You”. This adorable idea will charm the socks off your sweetie.
PRICE: $10 – $12
SWEETHEART POINTS: 50

3. J’adore Outdoors

Be like the old-fashioned movies and have a great outdoors picnic. You just need a blanket, your mother’s leftover potato salad, some sandwiches, and a bottle of lemonade and you’re set for a dinner of romantic proportions! Even add in some dessert or their favorite food for bonus points. They will love you for the obvious thought that went into it and for the sunset!
PRICE: Free
SWEETHEART POINTS: 90

4. Don’t Play Me For a Love Fool

Music makes the heart grow fonder, so find some music! Whether it be a concert in town, or even a small local band playing at the local coffee shop, go listen to some music and bond over the riffs and guitar solos. You’ll connect with the similar love of music and will have a great memory for years to come!
PRICE: $20 – $60
SWEETHEART POINTS: 140

5. Table for Two

Although this is the most cliché, a romantic dinner is always the easiest, and usually gets the best result. Find a restaurant with good food, good atmosphere, and your love’s favorite dish, and you’re good. It doesn’t have to be pricey (although that is usually people’s first instinct) but a place that you know that you both can have a nice, romantic time. Afterward you can get dessert at your favorite ice cream place and walk by the park for the sunset. How romantic!
PRICE: $40 – $100
SWEETHEART POINTS: 250

Crazy, Stupid, Phenomenal

Today I did one of my favorite things. I went to the cinema.

My mother approached me this morning to know if I wanted to go to the cinema with her to go see the new film Crazy, Stupid, Love. Not only was it a cute film, but it entertained me to no end.

Oh yeah, and Steve Carell has sex. Lots of it.

Crazy, Stupid, Love is about Cal Weaver, who has recently been told that his wife cheated on him and wants a divorce. He is devastated and throughout the film is trying to get over the hurt feelings. Cal’s 13-year-old son Robbie, meanwhile, is in love with his 17-year-old babysitter Jessica, who does not return his feelings. Robbie is obsessed with Jessica and goes to no limit to show her his love. Jessica, however, is in love with Cal, who has no idea. But this love triangle really doesn’t come into play until later in the film.

Cal, in his anger and depression over the divorce, ends up going to a popular bar, where he proceeds to complain to everyone about his misery. Overhearing Cal’s complains, Jacob Palmer, a known ladies’ man, decides to help Cal out. He dresses Cal in a new way, changes his behaviors, and helps him get his manliness back. And it does wonders for Cal. But while Jacob is helping Cal, he meets recent law school-graduate Hannah, and ends up falling in love with her.

I won’t ruin the ending for you, since I hate when people do that. But I will indulge you this: it has a happy ending. And that’s what makes a movie usually worth watching. Especially when it has to do with love.

Aren't they an adorable couple?

I really loved this film. It had so many actors and actresses that I adored. Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, and Kevin Bacon. Yeah, even though he doesn’t appear in the trailers, Kevin Bacon is in Crazy, Stupid, Love. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling make a very cute couple, even though his facial hair was probably very scratchy. Steve Carell leaves behind his usual acting behavior for a more serious man that I happened to like more. And Kevin Bacon was just adorable, as usual.

Movies about love aren’t always as cracked up as they are promoted to be. Valentine’s Day with Ashton Kutcher and Hector Elizondo seemed like a really good movie about love, but ended up teaching you nothing really, even though I enjoyed it. But Crazy, Stupid, Love taught more then just how to be in love and stay in love. Actually, you learned that love comes in many shapes and sizes and that you can be in love at any age. And it was so cute. Watching Robbie trip head over heels for Jessica at 13, seeing Jacob realize he was in love with Hannah, and even with Cal standing in front of a bunch of 8th grade parents telling them he knew who his soul mate was. It was beyond cute.

So, if you want a cute film to watch with your loved one(s) or your friends or even your family, I would definitely recommend Crazy, Stupid, Love. Even look at the title of this post. ‘Crazy, Stupid, Phenomenal’. That has to tell you something 😉
