My Favourite Blushes

As a fair-skinned woman who looks like a ghost when I wake up after my zzz’s, blush is my best friend.

Over the years I have tried many different blushes and found ones I love for colour, texture, and wearability. It is only when I really love a blush that I buy it again. Below are the blushes that have made it into my makeup bag again and again.Read More

Spring 2017 Beauty Necessities

Spring is finally upon us if the flowers are any indication. I can’t seem to go anywhere without seeing a tulip or wildflower popping up. And I love it!

As the weather takes a turn and my skin starts to go, “What is this cooler weather?” I realize it’s time to update my beauty routine for breezy winds and misty nights. No longer can I live off oily/dewy skin and bronzer.

It’s time for AUTUMN.

This week I broke out my cooler weather products to keep my skin looking fresh and clean, and maintaining every bit of that summer glow before it fades back into ghostly pale. These favourites focus on keeping matte, moisturized skin and bouncy hair. Let’s go!

The 5 Best Foundations for Oily Skin (By Someone with Oily Skin and a Real Budget)

Oh the joys of having oily skin!

And by joys I mean the complete and utter pain and despair that comes with making your skin look nice. It isn’t easy. Between the enlarged pores, the gross sheen of sweat, and the impossibility of finding the perfect foundation, I believe all oily skin people should be given awards or free treatments.

I’m just saying…

However, as someone with extremely oily skin I am always on the lookout for a great foundation that does at least one (if not all) of these things:

  1. Provides coverage of all discoloured spots
  2. Fills in my pores
  3. Stays on through the oil and sweat
  4. Provides a matte coverage that only looks dewy after a long day

If I can find a foundation that hits all four target areas then I am very happy. And after a lot of trial and error I have actually found five that I think are pretty great. And they are all different price ranges, so at least something will be affordable for everyone!

So here’s my list of the foundations that I believe will be the end of all gross, slidy foundation for oily skin owners!Read More

The 16 Beauty Products I Buy Over and Over Again

While I love trying out new products and using about every sample the store gives away, there are some tried and true products that will always be in my routine.

Today I’ve compiled a list of the products that have been staples in my beauty routine for years now. Some of them are more recent than others, but every single one is something that I think is necessary for me to look (and feel) my best. These products have gotten me through the rough times (Hello, finals week with my period) and have made sure I’m primped in the good moments. Everything in this list is perfection, so why not share?

Hopefully you will try some of these and they will make it into your routine just like they did mine!Read More

Favourites Friday #25

After being down and out with the flu this week, I am proud to report I am back to the land of the living and ready to get into some favourites!

This week definitely wasn’t the most spectacular (most of it was spent laying on my couch drinking water or attempting not to die during class) but the beginning of it was pretty great! On Sunday I had the opportunity of seeing Ellie Goulding’s headlining tour, Delirium! The show was amazing, so you know it’s in my favourites, and that along with a few other amazing things made my week not so bad after all!

Who’s ready for some great favourites?

The Enthusiast Reviews…Mascara

If there’s one makeup product that I buy exceedingly too many of it is mascara. I love a new mascara tube about as much as my pup loves a new toy. There’s just something about swiping something new on my lashes that fills me with a joy that’s more lovely than anything.

While going through my makeup bag I noticed that a big collection of it is mascaras. And while I don’t use them all every day, I love them all for a different reason. Some add more curl, some make me seem like I have a million lashes, and some look so natural it looks like someone Photoshopped my eyes. All my different mascaras have their own benefits.Read More

Favourites Friday #21

Well hello all!

We’re back to Friday again, and I am so ready because I have lots of essays and I’m ready to bunker down and write and eat crackers and basically live for my essays. But before I can do anything productive I must do something that helps me in no way. So I organized my beauty stash.

Earlier this week I decided to clear out my bathroom drawers because the longer I go without doing it I end up losing my toothpaste and having cotton swabs in everything. Plus I now have three boxes of allergy medicine because I keep ‘losing’ the old ones. So a clean out was necessary.Read More

Favourites Friday #16

Welcome to another Favourites Friday!

I’m rounding out this 2nd week of midterms with some exhaustion and a serious up in my makeup skills as I pretend to not look like a caffeine-driven zombie. I started out this week spending some time in my favourite tea shop with the boo doing some homework, continued doing even more homework and beginning essays, and ended it in full-bloom essay writing and not nearly enough green tea in my system. So, as you can tell, it’s been a real midterms week.

This week’s favourites focus on the essentials – and the rewards – of midterms week. And even though each term is different, these five favourites can be applied every term. So let’s check them out!Read More

The Best Beauty Brands

Because I love services like Birchbox and Ipsy, trying new makeup brands is something I love doing on a regular basis. But it’s important for a girl to have her tried and true brands to make sure that she doesn’t look like a dead hooker on the first date with her crush since second grade.

On Fridays I do my Favourites Friday and it’s about new products I’ve tried that I love. But how often do I talk about the products that I fit into my daily life no matter how great a new product is? Rarely. That’s why today I am going to share a list of the beauty brands that are my go-to for any day and have never let me down. They are products that are the first I gravitate to when needing a new blush or eyeshadow and I hope by sharing them with you, you will run to the store and pick them up because they’re seriously the best!

Who’s ready to buy a bigger makeup for all the amazing brands I’m about to share?

The Enthusiast’s Tried and True Beauty Brands

Okay, this one goes first because it is my all-time favourite. From their mascaras to their eyeshadows to their BB cream, I will try any product by Maybelline. They are perfection. All of their products stay all day, look great, and don’t ruin my skin. Which makes it perfection in my mind. If you need a makeup product and aren’t sure where to start, see if Maybelline offers a version you like because they likely do and you’ll fall in love with it – aka Maybelline The Nudes.

NARS Cosmetics

NARS is my go-to brand for when I want to treat myself. All of their products feel luxurious, and the packaging always looks gorgeous. And the products themselves are longwear and never feel cakey, which is a big one for me. I like to feel natural and that’s what NARS delivers. I am currently in love with their NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bahama because it looks natural despite being matte and doesn’t feel icky after a few hours like most matte lip colours.

Hands down my go-to for seriously awesome mascara and eyeliner. They are the blackest black and Eyeko Black Magic Mascara looks so natural but still makes me look like I have the daring lashes I’ve always wanted. They are sooo sexy. I am so in love with their eye makeup and if you’re looking for a fresh twist on your mascara, hit them up.

Rimmel London

I have tried foundation, eyeliner, lipstick, mascara, etc. from Rimmel London and every single one has been great. I am particularly fond of their Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss when I need a good lipstick for a night out (I wore shade 111 for a bright Christmas look for my holiday party and shade 107 for a more vampy NYE look) and it is truly a fantastic matte shade that does last all night. I love Rimmel London’s products because they are phenomenal at taking the basics and making them great for a night out or all day.

We all love Benefit (don’t lie, I know you do) and it’s because they make amazing products that seriously up our makeup game. We all have Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer in our makeup bag because it is so gorgeous and adds that “Yes, I just got back from Barbados” look. I love Benefit’s products because I am getting my bang for my buck. I am never disappointed with whatever I buy and Benefit really does live up to it’s promise of fantastic cosmetics.

My introductory brand into makeup, and a staple always in my bag, is e.l.f. They really do have the bag on cheap yet amazing products that are totally worth it. If I had to choose one product that I am completely in love with it would have to be e.l.f. Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter because it is the only concealer I’ve used that works great for my entire face (I’m a minimalist makeup girl) and it blends with my skin almost too well.

On my search for the perfect foundation, Revlon’s ColorStay Makeup for Normal/Dry Skin has worked amazing for my oily skin. Which is ridiculous since they have one for oily skin, but that one cakes up like crazy. But if I need to choose a foundation, this is my go-to every time and the colours are easy to blend with other foundations and moisturizers, which makes it great for when your skin tone changes throughout the year.

My very first piece of makeup was bareMinerals Original Broad Spectrum Foundation SPF 15 and despite the many different powder foundations I’ve used over the years, none compare to my bareMinerals. The finish is always smooth and the product itself lasts a long time despite my daily use of it. While I don’t use many of their other products, this brand will always have a soft spot in my heart.

Okay, I now have a huge craving to go to my local department store and stock up on makeup. Anyone want to join?

What brands do you swear by? What should I add to my beauty routine? Let me know in the comments!
