21 Things I Learned at 21

The ripe age of 21 tested me in ways I never knew. I graduated college. I got my first adult job. I dealt with heartbreak for the first time. I bought a car. I learned a lesson about friendship. I became really good at making avocado toast. And each of these experience taught me about the person I am, and who I strive to be. I’m a lot stronger than I give myself credit for, and I hope the lessons below show that.

The days that defined my 21st year of life will always stick with me, to remind me of the path I’ve taken where I am. And with Year 22 happening in only a few short hours, I can’t wait to see what it has in store for me.Read More

  • Relationships = Family, friends, and dating are providing happiness
  • Charity = Kindness to others and being globally conscience of other’s suffering

Those are the parts of my life that I want to thrive. One could say that a fulfilling life is borderline being a well-rounded person, and I agree. When you have a little bit of everything what more do you need?

My 30 Before 30

I am 21.5 years old.

What Watching 'The Mindy Project' Taught Me About Love, Life, and Being Yourself

Mindy Kaling is my spirit animal. I decided that when I read her books and this past weekend I am more convinced than ever.

“The Mindy Project” is Mindy Kaling’s television show, which is now in its fourth season. The show follows Mindy Lahiri, a gynecologist, as she pursues her career and personal life with a flair for food and pop culture references. Every episode is full of complete nonsense, but maintains a story line that has made me cry a few times. It’s truly a great representation of Kaling’s talent.

This past weekend I bought the first three seasons on DVD and binge watched with some white wine and the best hoagie sandwiches ever with my best friend. And there were laughs, tears, and lots of rolling on the couch because Danny Castellano dancing is enough to make the entire world happy again. But after all the laughs and such (and I finished all the DVDs and signed up for a Hulu account) I thought about the fact that “The Mindy Project” is more than just humorous, it is filled with so many life lessons that in a span of a few days I felt like a completely new person. Why sign up for a self-esteem seminar when you could just watch the show?Read More

Lately my thoughts have revolved around a career, buying my first car, where I want to live, etc. And it’s made me think about the influential pieces of advice I have received in my life that guide these decisions.

Movies Every Girl Should Live By

As a female in today’s society, I have learned a lot about what it means it be a strong, independent, fearless, compassionate woman from movies.

It’s as Audrey Hepburn said. “Everything I learned, I learned from movies.” And it’s true. So much of what goes into making us is what we see on the silver screen. That’s why it’s important that as people we are seeing the movies that teach us to be role models to ourselves and others.

Today I’ve compiled a list of movies that feature great roles for women/teach women lessons on life. While there are definitely some missing (I want to do my more hardcore movies in their own post) this one features some lighter – and more serious – films that feature impossibly brave women.

Grab some popcorn because it’s time to watch some movies?Read More
