3 Hairstyles to Hide Your Bad Haircut

Have you ever gotten a bad haircut? The better question is, when was the last time you got a good haircut?

Unless you trust your hairdresser with your life, you normally go into a haircut very nervous. This person has the potential to ruin – or make – your hair. And often when the stylist isn’t familiar with your head, it ends bad.

Last weekend I got a bad haircut. It’s not like she shaved off all of my hair, but I’m 90% sure the bangs she gave me and the bangs I asked for are very different. But instead of continuing to whine to my mom on FaceTime, I am going to grin and bear it with some tricky little hairstyles.

Below I have compiled three hairstyles that will fix most major bad haircuts. And trust me, they are saving me in this short-bang phase. Continue reading

Why I Stopped Washing My Hair Every Day

Junior year of high school a girl in my class told me she washed her hair once a week and instantly I was so disgusted I no longer wanted to sit next to me. Yes, I am a wash-my-hair-every-day kind of girl.

I have the kind of hair that even when I break all the hair rules (washing every day, blow drying every day, not using heat protectant, bleaching, etc.) whenever I go into the salon I am told that I have healthy, beautiful hair. Even when I had two years of grown out ombre my stylist still was surprised by how healthy and full of life my hair was. Wow, brag much?

Because of this, I continue to break hair rules on a regular basis – although I am improving – and decided that in a bold move to take better care of my hair I would try washing it every other day for a week. And considering how greasy my hair gets, it was definitely an experiment. Here’s my experience: Continue reading

My Daily Beauty Routine

As I’ve ventured more into my love of products and beauty in the blog, I often get asked about my routine and what I use on a daily basis. These questions come up enough (and I will read any post that has the words “daily” or “routine” in it) and I’ve finally got a set daily routine so I figured it was time I shared exactly what makes the magic here on The Enthusiast.

From what I use in the shower, to those final finishing touches, here’s exactly how I go from drab to fab on a regular day!

The Shower

I probably take the shortest showers of anyone I know. 1) Because I am very environmentally conscience and 2) I would rather lay in my bed for 20 minutes post-shower than to stand under water for 20 minutes. Continue reading

The 16 Beauty Products I Buy Over and Over Again

While I love trying out new products and using about every sample the store gives away, there are some tried and true products that will always be in my routine.

Today I’ve compiled a list of the products that have been staples in my beauty routine for years now. Some of them are more recent than others, but every single one is something that I think is necessary for me to look (and feel) my best. These products have gotten me through the rough times (Hello, finals week with my period) and have made sure I’m primped in the good moments. Everything in this list is perfection, so why not share?

Hopefully you will try some of these and they will make it into your routine just like they did mine! Continue reading

Favourites Friday #28

Happy birthday week to me!

My birthday is one of my favourites days of the year (isn’t it everybody’s?) because I like to spend my birthday with friends and family creating beautiful memories. And this year was no different!

Because I can now legally purchase alcohol (and yes, I now have the art of pulling out my ID gracefully) this week has just been very different, and very fun, compared to past. Not to say alcohol is the most fun thing ever, but it opens you up to some things you weren’t able to do before.

On Monday (my actual birthday) my mom drove down to take me to dinner, where she bought me my first drink. We had a great conversation over delicious food (and free dessert). When I arrived home my roommates had made me cupcakes to celebrate me finally joining their 21-year-old ranks. We ate chocolate cupcakes and chocolate bread (brownie mix and cookie dough) with some prosecco and just laughed and chatted, which is really the best thing to get out of any birthday.

Thank you to anyone who wished me a happy birthday and I hope you’ll enjoy this week’s favourites which have a certain 21st birthday feel.
