The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
The sequel to the first Hunger Games film, and it is definitely one of the best sequels of all time. Usually sequels don’t live up to their original, but this one did a fantastic job of building onto the story, but also being a great film on it’s own.
In this film, we continue on with the story of Katniss as she lives after winning the Hunger Games. I don’t want to give a lot of the plot for those who have not seen it. Basically, Katniss is angry at the Capitol for everything they put her through and all the people they hurt, and the Capitol is angry at her for besting them at their own game. In her and Peeta’s travel through the different districts, she sees the pain the Games have caused and strikes out against the Capitol in a way to show that she is not a Capitol puppet like they assume her to be. In the end, the Capitol (particularly President Snow) make the previous winners of the Hunger Games participate in a special Hunger Games, where all of the people in the arena have already won the Hunger Games are at the top of their field. It’s a lot bloodier and a lot more conspiratorial than the first. But so much better, until the end. When you get teary for Katniss and Peeta.
It’s definitely more gruesome and there is waaay more drama and plot than the original. If you liked the first Hunger Games, you will most likely like Catching Fire even more.
Would I recommend this film? Definitely. One of the best films I watched this year.
