At the ripe age of seven I was introduced to the world of Harry Potter. And 14 years later I am still enthralled in the magical kingdom of the Wizarding World. More than that, I look at Hermione Granger as a role model.
Hermione Granger is often overlooked as the bookworm best friend of the brave hero, but to me she is truly the most talented, brave, intelligent, sympathetic character in J.K. Rowling’s literature.
They say that the secret to success is to get a good night’s sleep. And to get a good night’s sleep is to have a routine that relaxes you and alleviates any stresses for the morning. That’s why having a nightly routine is very important to having a successful life.
Six years ago I started this blog. And six years I never thought I would be here.
I started this blog on January 1, 2011 because sharing what is in my head is important to me. And on January 1, 2017, I feel the same. What use is the internet if we can’t communicate and share our ideas? So here we are, six years in and overflowing with opportunity!
This year on the blog is a lot different than every other year we’ve faced. First off, I am no longer in school. No more missed blog posts to study. However, I am working full-time and that brings it’s own challenges. But lots of opportunities too. My 2017 New Year’s Resolution was to take life by the reigns. And that means doing everything I can to live the life that I want.
To celebrate a sixth year of blogging, I am sharing my resolutions to not only making this blog better, but to making The Enthusiast (myself) better.Read More
2016, I am ready to say goodbye. 2017, are you ready for the challenge?
As we end this week and begin to enter 2017, there is time for reflection. As a society we have decided that 2016 was by far one of the worst years ever. But before we sink down into all the things I disliked about 2016, I want to celebrate all of my favourite memories on this last 2016 Favourites Friday.Read More
This past weekend was one of the best I’ve had in a while because I got to see two of my favourite people. And seeing them both back-to-back really opened my eyes to friendship, relationships, and how they relate to me.
I love Christmas. I love Christmas so much that I’m basically bursting with sugar cookie sugarplums and Christmas carols all month long!
For the last few years I have done an Instagram challenge for 25 days of December with a holiday/Chrsitmas theme because what better way to celebrate the best time of the year!
This year’s challenge begins tomorrow, December 1st. It will continue until the 25th. The objective? To complete as many of the days as you can. And it’s pretty easy considering some days are Choose Your Own. What do you do? Post a photo with that day’s theme and use the hashtag #EnthusiastChristmas. If you use the hashtag I can find your photos!
I’ve been doing this challenge for so long now that I always look forward to it! Here’s some photos from past years:
#EnthusiastHoliday15 Day 2: Christmas sweater Channeling my inner @zozeebo with a red lip because it matches my festive holiday sweater 🎄🎅🏻
#EnthusiastHoliday15 Day 12: Christmas countdown Only 12 more days until Santa comes to visit!
#EnthusiastHoliday15 Day 3: Nutcracker My collection of Nutcrackers is so dear to me and I’m so excited to unveil my new Drama Queen Nutcracker!
11: Santa Hat – Ho ho ho it’s Covington!
12: Christmas Dish – Love this snowman mug I bought with @katy_suzie last year!
Day 1: Red Starbucks cup
See, pretty easy! And this year I’m so excited because I’m doing the challenge in Portland this year!
Here are the 25 Days of Christmas Enthusiasm day themes, to be followed:
I hope you’ll along and keep up with #EnthusiastChristmas, but if you don’t, check out my Instagram @PotatoesHegarty to see what fun I’m up to all December long!

I am constantly in the pursuit of enriching my everyday life.
In this pursuit, I have found that there are many habits and rituals that can lead to living a happier life. These rituals change often for me as I discover new ones, but there are some that are timeless and I always go back to them. So today I’m going to share them.
These rituals always make my life seem more relaxing and less complicated. I hope they do the same for you.Read More
As a recent graduate of the University of Oregon, I spent three years counting down the moments until I was done with homework and tests for life. That’s right, I even graduated early so I wouldn’t have to deal with four years of it.
And after all my hard work and stressed out nights, here I am in the post-grad life. Is it everything I thought it was? Yes and no.Read More
If you’re looking for me, I am currently hanging “Good Vibes Only” signs all over my life.
This past weekend I was at a friend’s birthday party where a tarot card reader was hired. Now, I don’t believe in any of that supernatural ESP belief as a Christian, but also as someone who just believes it’s ridiculous to try to know what’s going on in life. But when it’s free I’ll try anything.
As skeptical as I was, I entered the experience with an open mind. When my turn came I walked into the room (a bedroom with a small table and a woman in a turban scarfing down carnitas tacos) and prepared myself for the whole “you’ll meet a dark stranger/you’ve had horrible hardships/you’ll die in 30 days” crap that I’ve seen in too many movies to count. But I was disappointed.Read More
