About Morgan

Morgan. 21. Blogger. Enthusiast. Writer. Anglophile. Potato.

a15

On January 1, 2011 I had a stroke of genius. Why not start a blog about the things I love and talk about them with a community of people? Thus the start of what would become The Enthusiast.

As for me, Morgan, here is my story: A recent Journalism graduate of the University of Oregon, I spend much of my time discussing current events, drinking bubble tea, and writing about anything and everything. Not to mention tweeting as if I am getting paid. If I’m not at home, you will most likely find me at the cinema watching either an Indie film or something with a cute love interest.

This blog is a compilation of my interests (and I get interested in almost anything. If you don’t believe me, ask my friends) and my life. I am a firm believer that life is about trying everything once, and I stick to that. Here are some examples:

  • I once snuck into the building where they filmed “High School Musical” and I would have gotten away with it if the principal hadn’t asked us if we were students.

  • I have attended at least two big name concerts a year for the last four years.

  • I once pet a Swiss cow and it moo’d at me.

  • In May 2014 I cut five inches off of my hair and ombre’d it. It took two full years for all of the bleached hair to finally leave my locks.

And those are only some of the insane things that have happened on this blog’s journey.

If you like what you’ve read so far, subscribe (the cute widget in the side bar will do it). I will not disappoint. This blog is about having fun and discussing what is important/entertaining and just being a generally great place to hang out. So, what do you say, will you be an Enthusiast?

Stay classy, reader,

If you’re curious, here is some of my professional work:

I am a contributing writer for Lifehack, a lifestyle tip website, and write twice monthly for them.

I am also a contributing writer for The Huffington Post, writing editorial pieces mostly including Seamus Finnegan and “Frozen.”

I was a contributing writer for Her Campus, the #1 website for college women, and write articles regularly for them.

On March 31, 2014, USA TODAY published an article that I wrote.

You certainly appear to have chosen the right title for your blog. How I wish this technology had been available when I was your age. Whereas I had only my local pals with which to share my enthusiasm – your outreach is global. And you’re infectious.

I don’t do anything. I do get a huge load of spam but it’s just a part of blogging in general. It drives me insane too, but you’ll just have to go through with it.
If anything, see if you can use Akismet. They are great.

  8. Hi Morgan – I like your funny, sincere writing style and the entire point of this blog! Isn’t it so interesting how you can almost get to know someone by “listening” to their words?
I’m also a teenager (13) and I started my blog to write about my family’s trip. We traveled around the world last year!
I have many posts on Europe (having spent 4 months there) and I saw you are traveling in Europe currently, so feel free to check it out!

      Lillian,

Thank you so much for your kind words. It’s comments like that that make me really enjoy writing in the first place.
Traveling around the world sounds like so much fun! I wish I could do that, but my family likes to keep to the West Coast.
      Thank you!

this blog is awesome! i love the approach to life you’ve taken, cus it kinda matches mine 🙂
instead of books and movies (which i do love) i get enthusiastic about art and all the strange and different but wonderful things i see and create. i can’t tell you how many times my friends have looked at me weird for taking a picture of a rock or a brick or a random donkey statue in someones window 🙂 so way to go morgan for being able to just be like “Here i am world, love me! and if you don’t thats great too!” 😀

      Zorganoth,

Thank you! Your kind words are really awesome and totally appreciated. And I get the art and small things that you get enthusiastic about, as I do the exact same thing. Movies are just a little easier to talk about.
And I do exactly like you say, I lay it all out and say, “Take it or leave it. It’s who I am and I’m not going to change.” Thanks for being so great about that!

hey I’m exactly the same way! and i agree that movies are easier to talk about than like my fascination with a weird little things 🙂 plus i have to give you props for being able to respond to almost every single comment you get! i get like 10x less comments and i still find it hard to respond to them all, and i know the social life of a teen, that takes major dedication! also idk if you’ll find this interesting or not but this may become one of your new enthusiasms, cus it defiantly is one of mine. one thing that really gives me that opportunity to be all out there and have the “take it or leave it attitude” is cus i have synesthesia, which sounds all weird and scary but its nothing more than confusion of the senses, i see sound, hear color, taste words, stuff like that, and only like 2% of the world has it. so I’m born weird 🙂 i gotta embrace it. 🙂

          Zorganoth,

Thank you for the props. Responding to people is really important to me, even if it does take me a few hours. The trick is just to set time aside for people. I mean, they set time aside to write to me, so I should do the same. And your synesthesia sounds interesting. I’ve never heard of it before. And embracing what you’re born with makes you a stronger person. If I didn’t embrace my own disabilities and such, I’d be a little weakling. Go you!

          • Zorganoth says:

thats a good way to look at responding. and thanks, though i wouldn’t call synesthesia a disability (i mean i will admit it is hard sometimes) but its cool to be able to tell your friends what color their name is or to be able to recognize cords or notes but the color and shape of them! like the only reason i could play violin is cus i remembered the color of the song, i couldn’t read notes if my life depended on it! and i didn’t think you would have heard of it, almost nobody has, unless of course you have it or study it, but i feel really strongly about it cus almost every single person who has had it has been bullied at some point in their life for it cus people just don’t understand it. and the shocking thing is that its mostly the teachers of the students that bully them for it. so i tell everyone i know about it to you know spread the knowledge and stop the bullying. i mean I’m sure theres at least one kid at your school who has it (probably one of the really musically inclined or artfully talented ones) gosh i feel like one of those like public speakers. anyway, its really interesting and since you like interesting things i thought you’d be interested, anyway, thats my rant 🙂 i love your blog, thanks for listening to me, and i will defiantly read your blog more often!

              Zorganoth,

Having synesthesia sounds like a really cool thing to have, if not a bit different. It would be really cool to be able to experience it.
And thank you for reading. You seem like a pretty cool person and I hope to hear from you again!
