Some weeks are harder than others. Some weeks are better than others. And the way we let events affect us is all about our attitude toward the week.
This week I struggled with being tired and lethargic, but instead of letting it ruin my week, I took a different approach. I forced myself to look at the end of the week as a reward, and if I make it to the end of the week and finish all my work, then I get a special treat. And it made my week a lot better.
As I look forward to my reward (the weekend!) let’s take a step back to look at the things I loved this week.
Getting to the Weekend: A Favourites Friday
1. The Pendleton Whisky Festival
I started my week off pretty great at the Pendleton Whisky Festival, where the main act was Maroon 5. Not only did I get to go with my best concert buddy (my mom) but I got to hear “Sunday Morning” live and that’s all I really need in life. Mark it on your calendars to go next year!
2. Rizzoli & Isles

Why did no one tell me about this show? It’s girl power crime fighting, and I cannot get enough. I’m borderline in love with Maura Isles and her quirky, healthy ways.
3. Chicken and rice
When I’m feeling down I love comfort food, and nothing is more comforting than chicken and rice. After looking at a few recipes, I made my own concoction for a creamy, savory chicken, broccoli, and rice that made for the perfect comforting meal. If you’re looking for a crockpot, I recommend this one.
- In a crockpot, combine 1 can cream of chicken soup, 14 oz chicken broth, 2 tablespoons chili powder, 1 tablespoon garlic salt, and 4 chicken breasts. Cook on high 3 hours, low 4 hours.
- Half hour before finishing, take out chicken and shred. Add chicken, a bag of steamed broccoli, sour cream/cream cheese, and 1 tablespoon black pepper. Cook for 30 minutes.
- When finished, spoon out over rice. Enjoy!
This body wash is luxurious, nourishing, and lathering. I’ve never used their body washes before, but SoftSoap really outdid themselves this time. My skin has never felt so nice after a shower, and I don’t need lotion as much, which is great for my dry skin!
5. Big pearls
I got my ears pierced later in life, so wearing earrings never become a habit for me. That said, when I do wear earrings I love for them to feel special. This week I popped on big pearls to enhance my mood, and I think the little extra oomph really helped.
