This weekend I was able to travel out of the the city and enjoy myself in wine country. A weekend away was exactly what I needed. The open air, good wine, and fantastic company!
Weekend travel is short and sweet, but always worth it. I always make sure to pack my bag for anything I could need, especially when the weather is fluctuating. I love products that can multi-task or work with other pieces as it’s important to pack light while not feeling like you’re missing a limb.
Here is my weekend travel essential list.
1. Micellar water
When I travel I don’t want to be weighed down with the multiple cleansers, exfoliators, and masks that are part of my weekly skincare routine. And with only being gone for a few days, sticking micellar water and some cotton pads in my bag is perfect. It still cleans off all my makeup and cleanses my skin without drying it out.
2. Comfortable shoes
You never know what your weekend is going to throw at you. I love these sneakers because they are perfect for anything from window shopping to adventuring. I can pair them with cropped jeans and a sweater, or a casual dress and jacket. They are always in my weekend bag.
3. Layering tops
If you live somewhere like the Bay Area or the Pacific Northwest, you know that planning your outfit for the weekend means planning for two different weather scenarios. That’s why I utilize tops I can layer. I love this Liz Claiborne top because it can be worn by itself, or under a cardigan or jacket. Perfect for a weekend out exploring.
4. Tinted Moisturizer
Weekend travel is the best time for giving your skin a break. Leave behind your heavy foundations and stick a tinted moisturizer in your bag. This Laura Mercier formula is lightweight and keeps skin feeling fresh all day. And the dewy finish it leaves behind is a dream.
5. Bucket bag
I’ve become obsessed with bucket bags for their distinctive style and easy accessibility to my belongings. For a while now I’ve been using this Old Navy bag that by itself doesn’t seem too interesting. I wrapped an old floral scarf around the strap and suddenly I receive so many comments. I love that it is deep enough to carry everything from my wallet to random items I pick up. And the inside side pocket can hold a variety of items from sunglasses to your phone and mints. If you’re looking for a cheaper bucket bag to drag around with you everywhere, this bag is the one for you.
6. Texture spray
When traveling doing my hair for anything other than a formal event seems ridiculous. After washing and air-drying my hair, I’ll spritz hair with this Kristin Ess texture spray and scrunch with my hands. Leaves hair looking lived in, and creates a nice base for any updos that inevitably happen when I’m exploring a new place.
I never leave home without sunglasses. As always, my Warby Parker Jennings sunglasses are forever my favourite sunglasses. With slightly mirrored lenses and a classic yet modern shape, most of my weekend pics include me looking too cool in my Warby Parkers.
As a fair-skinned individual, it doesn’t take a lot of sun to make me burn. Over the past few weekends of only spending a few hours with SPF 50+ on have left me with shoulder freckles. Coming from a family of athletes, we all use sunscreen that will protect us all day and won’t melt off with sweat, which is why I always have a can of Banana Boat in my bag. It’s quick absorbing and doesn’t leave any greasy residue.
9. Jaw clips
My biggest essential for weekend travel is jaw clips. Handy for pulling my hair up in the heat, or helping me to section hair for heat styling, I always have a few in my beauty bag. I prefer the small ones as they give a bit more control. I’ve used them for anything and everything in the hair department and these Urban Outfitters ones are incredibly strong and won’t break when you’re rough with them. And what cute colours!
