Favourites Friday #74: Updating the Basics

I’m the kind of person who likes to change things up. I can’t remember the last time I had the same laptop background for more than a few months, and I’m moving my hydrangea plant to different spots every few days. I’m the same way with my makeup routine.

While I have products I love, I always welcome something new that adds to my basic look. This week I was able to find a few new products and tools that have {temporarily} replaced the products that I pick up day after day. Some are cult favourites, while others are ones that I couldn’t be more happy that I spent time snooping around the store.

Updating the Basics: A Favourites Friday

1. No.7 Stay Perfect Mascara

I’ve been in the market for a simple, easy to use mascara for days when I want just a little contrast on my eyes. I love this mascara because it swipes over lashes easily with little clumping and doesn’t smudge at all. Seriously, I had to soak my lashes with tons of warm water to get it off! This is great for when you don’t want to worry about smudging.

2. L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

Once again I am on the hunt for a great drugstore foundation. After every website on the planet saying that this foundation is the one for oily skin, I figured it was time to give it a try. Not only does this create a full-coverage, lightweight finish, but it makes my skin look healthy and dewy, without being shiny. I may have found my new go-to foundation.

3. The Original beautyblender

Yes, I have joined the world of beautyblender! As a girl who loves her makeup brushes, I was looking to switch it up. So why not make the change with one of the most popular makeup tools of all time? And let me say, it’s worth the hype. Not only does my makeup not budge all day {which is impressive as I have oily skin and my office is a million degrees} but application is really easy. The flawless finish it gives is a bonus, and it’s the reason I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a brush.

4. Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

After months of Sephora recommending this product to me over and over, I decided to swap out my old night routine and try this serum. Not only does it soak into my skin in seconds, but after just one use I can see how the texture of my skin is more even. My pores didn’t even bug me when I was applying concealer! This will be making a regular appearance in my skin routine.

5. Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water

Because of my oily, problematic skin, it’s become my routine to scrub and chemicalize my skin after a day of wearing makeup. But after reading a lot about French beauty, I decided to try micellar water. And let me say, the French know a little something. Just a little water on cotton wipes off all my makeup and makes my skin feel fresh and clear. And I’ve noticed that my skin doesn’t feel irritated first thing in the morning when I’m washing it in the shower – a problem I’ve regularly had after a rough scrub the night before. While I won’t give up my scrubs just yet, I will be adding micellar water to the rotation.
