A Therapist For You, And a Therapist For You, And a Therapist For You

Everyone needs a therapist.

I’m going to let you all in on a secret – I’ve been seeing a therapist for the last nine months. And while I’ve definitely been keeping it on the DL, I don’t think it’s anything to be ashamed of. Actually, I think that everyone should see a therapist. You can learn a lot about yourself, and talking about your problems is the first step to fixing them. As someone who has now tried therapy, I think you should too.

After experiencing depression in early 2014 and then having lots of negative self-image I decided that it might be worth it to try therapy. I came into therapy in a really bad place. Nine months later, I spent my very last therapy session telling my therapist I feel, “Happier than I have in a long time. I’m seeing myself in a new light and I’m finally ready to face my anxieties.”

People who see therapists get a bad rap. I mean, yeah, not a lot of people get professional help – and many that do need severe psychological treatment – but that doesn’t mean those that do should get stereotyped into the ‘crazy’ category. Having someone who can get you through your insecurities or guiding you through tough times or even helping you discover a mental illness can relieve a lot of your stress, and isn’t that what we all want?

In my time at therapy, not only have I learned to overcome so many of my anxieties and insecurities (including things that were severely affecting my interpersonal relationships) but I also learned how to “therapy” my own problems on my own. Being able to do that has been an accomplishment I thought I’d never have. And to have that power is amazing.

If you’re going to take anything from this post, know that seeing a therapist is nothing to be ashamed of. And if you’re reading this and thinking, “Hey, if Morgan can see a therapist for her problems, maybe I can too,” then pick up the phone and find one! This is a revolution of making yourself happy and sorting out what is separating you from your happiness. Let’s go!

See you on the positive side of mental health!
