You’re Not Sated Until You’ve Tried Plated: A Review

I love to eat nutritious meals, but I hate having to find all the ingredients to make them. What’s my solution? Plated.

If you don’t know what Plated is, let me explain. Plated is a service that for a weekly fee provides the ingredients for nutritious, well-rounded meals delivered right to your doorstep. If you don’t believe me, the delivery man who delivered my box had to take an elevator, wait for someone with a key fob to let him onto my floor and knock vigorously on my door at 9am on a Saturday for me to answer it to ensure that the ingredients stay fresh. Plated is definitely the answer to my problem.

I came across the service on Facebook and decided to give it a try. Why not, right? The service works in that you can decide how many meals you want delivered, and each meal serves two. You can put in your taste preferences and whatnot and within the week they will have delivered you a box of 1-3 meals that fit your taste preferences. So if you’re vegan or vegetarian, you an do this too!

Now for my experience with Plated…

I received the box filled with ingredients Saturday morning and found it held everything we would need! My boyfriend and I decided that we would make Plated meals for dinner that week. We were both very skeptical on exactly how everything would taste, and if it was going to be worth our money. A hint? It was.

The first meal we made was turkey spinach burgers with cucumber radish salad. This one was by far the easiest to make (if you enjoy chopping lots of veggies) and was by far my favourite. In the box it had everything we would need (ground turkey, spinach, radishes, cucumber, scallions, almonds, etc.) and an instruction paper with everything we would need and how to do it all. In all, it took us about 40 minutes to make our meal and it was delicious!

The second meal was chicken pallaird with crusted parmesan asparagus and smashed potatoes. This one was my boyfriend’s favourite. Even though we had to smash our chicken with a hammer from my tool kit, and our parmesan crusted asparagus turned into “parmesan on the side” asparagus, it was super yummy! I do wish they would have warned us about the use of extra kitchen tools since as a college kid I wouldn’t think to buy a meat pounder. Overall though it was a fancy treat for such a good price!

Lastly we made coconut rice and wasabi vinaigrette vegetables. This one we’ve been trying to force ourselves to finish the leftovers of for days. Cooking it took forever (lots of steps and lots of waiting time for the rice) and it turned out pretty good I’ll say. However, it wasn’t very filling and would have been way better as a side dish. But definitely something I would make again alongside something like sushi or cod.

So, what is my overall review of Plated? I would definitely try it again! I’ve already recommended it to several of my friends and family who love cooking and I know would enjoy the way Plated works. And the meals are delicious, so that’s definitely a plus!
