How to Keep a Boy (From a Semi-Expert)

Well, I kind of lied when I said “How to Tell if a Boy Likes You (And Other Real Boy Advice)” was the last part of my “How to…Boy” series. But I also didn’t expect to get in a relationship, so you’ll have to forgive me.

I’m reaching my three month anniversary and someone suggested I make a post about how I stay in my relationship. And why not? I have some tips and tricks up my sleeve, and I’m sure some of you are curious. Now it’s time to share!

How to Keep Your Boyfriend In Love With You
(And You In Love With Him)

1. Compromise

When you’ve been single, the only thing you’ve had to deal with is yourself. But being with another person means you have to take their opinions and preferences into account also. To make your relationship work, you have to compromise to make everyone happy. Whether that means not getting exactly what you want for dinner, or spending time with their mom instead of that cool house party, making these compromises will make your relationship stronger and avoid most ridiculous arguments.

2. Laugh

It’s all about laughing off the silly stuff. Know when you’re in the wrong (or they are) and take a step back to laugh at how involved you are. Because your relationship isn’t about focusing on the fights, but the fun stuff. Every couple is going to have bad days, but don’t let those define your relationship. Laugh and enjoy the other’s company.

3. Independence

If you’re clingy, there’s something wrong with your relationship. Have the independence to be away from your significant other for a few days. That’s not to say that you should ignore them to be “healthy,” but rather let them have their time away from you. And that time apart will make the time you spend together even more special. Don’t be a clingy girlfriend, be the cool girlfriend they want to spend time with.

4. Communicate

Oh hey, this one is nothing new. Talking to your significant other about any issues you have is the best way to keep the relationship rolling. No relationship is perfect, and if you have a healthy relationship then there are going to be issues. Talking it out, and getting some cuddles in after, I’ve found are the best way to get over any conflict.

5. Fun

DO FUN THINGS WITH YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER. Buy dougnuts. Have parties with friends. See movies. Spend time with them other than just cuddling. This is important!

I hope you enjoyed the fourth (and hopefully final) part of the “How to…Boy” series. It’s been a fun ride with writing this series (I’ve been doing it since I was 16, and now we’re here almost four years later.

How do you keep your relationship going?

If you want to read the other parts of the series, here is Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.
