How To: A Good Old-Fashioned Girls’ Night

The stereotype of a typical teenager on a Friday night is that they go to a house party and get drunk and party sloppily and make some sort of massive mistake and wake up Saturday morning with a huge hangover.

I guess you could say I’m not a typical teenager.

I love my friends. I have this group of friends who bring out the best in me. They are people of different interests and styles and ambitions and together we create this group of girls who support each other. It’s beautiful, really.

A few weeks ago I had this dream that one of my friends had gone to university and I hadn’t even seen her all summer and I never got to say goodbye. And I about woke up in tears. The idea of not seeing my friends before we all separate for university makes me sick to my stomach because it’s only in these last five months that I found these friends who I love more than food. That’s serious!

So I decided to have a party. I made it all official with a Facebook page (yeah, I use Facebook for parties, sue me) and named it “Because I Need an Excuse to See Your Lovely Face” because I really did need an excuse to see their lovely faces.

And last night we partied. But there was no alcohol or club music. There were puzzles and fondue. And I ended my night sober, happy, and content with my life. So here’s my guide on how to have a good alcohol-free girls’ night at your own home.

Morgan’s Girls’ Night Guide

  1. Food. I’m sorry, but if you go to a party and there is no food, leave. I give you permission to high tail it out of there. A good party has real food (pizza, sandwiches, burgers, etc.) some sort of side (we didn’t do sides. Morgan is lazy) and dessert (can you say chocolate fondue and Oreos?) Food is a great way to not only fill up your guests, but makes everyone happy. And if you’re like my friends, we obsess over food so much that we text each other at 11:30 at night about having food parties.
  2. Music. You have to set the right kind of mood when you’re with your girls. So whether it’s making a mix tape or setting up an iPod, you have got to have something to set up in the background. Yesterday it was Little Mix with occasional One Direction and some Top 40 songs. We were all singing along and enjoying ourselves and it definitely got us all hyped up for the next thing…
  3. Activities. I am lame. You don’t have to tweet that to me and tell me. But two weekends ago when I was at the coast I came across a One Direction puzzle and bought it, for the pure amusement I knew it would bring my friends and I. And so last night, while most kids were watching movies at the cinema or getting high, me and my friends sat around my big dining table and made a puzzle meant for 10 year olds. Here are some of the lovely pictures from last night.

  4. Comfort. Make your guests comfortable. Not only in sitting arrangements, but make sure everyone is laughing and having a good time and being included. And make sure the laughter is abundant, because then everyone feels like they can let loose and enjoy themselves!

And that’s how you have a good old-fashioned girls’ night. What do you do on your nights out with the girls (or guys)? Let me know in the comments!

I also want to thank you all. I hit 700 subscribers since the last time I posted and it means so much to me to know that I have you lot to support me as I continue on in my adventures.
