Drop the Dead Weight

I’m starting my Senior year of high school in only a couple of short weeks. And while I know I have many more years to come, I want to make this one one of the best. But to make it a good year I need to focus on the positives of my life and drop all the dead, unsupportive weight.

Do you remember when I told you I wrote a book a few years ago? Well, when I reread it, I found this part.

There are two types of people in this world: nice people who want you to go far and mean people who couldn’t care less about you. I try to surround myself with the nice people as being with them makes me happier. You’ll go farther that way.

After I read this I realized I wasn’t even taking my own advice. I do surround myself with nice people, but there is a more than healthy number of mean people mixed in. These people don’t have my best interests at heart. They constantly undermine me and make me feel bad. Being around them is going to glue me to the floor and not help my talents grow.

This said, I am now taking my advice. I’m getting rid of the mean people. And I don’t mean in the mob sense. I’m not going to put up with being bullied by a ‘friend’, so I’m going to tell them how I feel and not try to impress them. By trying to impress them and have them support me, I’m insulting my own dignity and failing at it because these people don’t care and they never will.

I know I’m not the only person who has friends like this. I want you to know you aren’t alone. I encourage you to stand up for yourself and say no to being tossed aside. You are an amazing person and deserve to be with people who think you are.
