I constantly hear people complain about not being able to have a balanced, healthy lifestyle because it’s so hard. And I’m not saying that it’s easy, but it takes a lot less effort than trying to find the cure for cancer.
I am not the perfect role model for a perfectly balanced lifestyle. But I’m trying. And in my journey to being a healthy person, I’ve found some ways that aren’t very hard and make me feel healthy and happy. I used to think that being a balanced person seemed so difficult. Now that I’m trying to be that person, I’ve found that it’s so simple that it’s ridiculous. You don’t have to get a gym membership or join Nutrisystem. It’s all about taking what you have and modifying it to ensure your health.
Balancing Your Life, the Easy Way
- Get active. If you have a treadmill at home or at your local fitness center, go use it. Walk a mile or two every day. It’s the perfect way to get up and feel like you are doing something first thing in the morning. Also, you can get fitness apps for your iPod or smart phone that will keep you in shape. A personal favorite of mine is the Daily Workouts apps, as they fit every area of fitness, plus have a really great yoga app that I love using.
- Say no to fries. I have a lot of trouble with this one, but when you have the choice of fried food or carrot sticks, choose carrot sticks. They might not be as salty or delicious, but with a little ranch, or some brown sugar if you want a little sweet, they taste really good. A lot of fruits have natural sugars, so instead of a cookie, try an apple. Yum!
- Spend time outside. Sitting inside on the couch can make you lazy and unproductive. Going outside will make a huge difference. You could get a tan, or work on the garden, or be inspired for your next big novel. When you go outside, your brain is introduced to new ‘things’ and inspires you to do something. Half of the posts on this blog came to me while I was sitting outside.
- Be social. Put away the mobile phone and get a friend. Being around another person gives people the feeling of needing to do something, so it could encourage you to go on a walk, or to go explore downtown. Your body will appreciate the activities you do as you stay active but have fun.
Those are the basics of having a healthy, balanced lifestyle. The trick really is to just get up and do stuff. Don’t sit around like a loaf of bread in sweats. Put on some real clothes and do something. Take your computer outside and use Tumblr while getting a tan (wearing sunscreen of course.) Summer is a great time to change your life around. It’s time to be the best you, so let’s all work together to do so!
